Busting SAP BTP Suite Myths
Busting SAP Integration Suite Myths

This blog is based on the session by Udo Paltzer, Product Manager for SAP Integration Suite, at SAP Teched 2023. In this session, he debunked some common myths and misconceptions about SAP Integration Suite and provided technical insights into its capabilities.

SAP Integration Suite is a leading iPaaS (integration Platform as a service) solution that enables seamless integration of applications, data, and processes across different environments. It is a versatile and scalable tool that can handle various integration challenges and scenarios.

However, there are some common myths and misconceptions that may prevent you from fully leveraging its potential. In this blog, we will debunk these myths and reveal the truth behind SAP Integration Suite’s capabilities.

Myth #1: SAP Integration Suite is not ready for enterprise use.

Fact: This is a false claim. SAP Integration Suite is a strategic and reliable platform that meets the enterprise-level integration requirements. It offers a comprehensive set of features and benefits, such as:

  • API, event, and process integration: SAP Integration Suite provides a unified platform for managing all aspects of integration, including API management, event-driven architecture, and process automation. You can easily design, build, and monitor your integration flows using a graphical interface or code editor.

  • Diverse application connectivity: SAP Integration Suite supports over 250 adapters that enable connectivity with a wide range of applications, both SAP and non-SAP. You can integrate with popular solutions like Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, and government agency systems, as well as custom or legacy applications.

  • Pre-packaged content and scenarios: SAP Integration Suite offers pre-built integration flows and content for common use cases and scenarios, such as SAP S/4HANA migration, SAP SuccessFactors integration, and SAP Ariba integration. You can also access and share content from the SAP API Business Hub and the SAP Cloud Platform Integration Content Advisor.

  • Scalability and performance: SAP Integration Suite can handle millions of messages and API requests per day, ensuring smooth and fast operation even in high-volume and complex scenarios. You can also optimize your integrations using design guidelines and best practices from SAP.

  • Monitoring and management: SAP Integration Suite integrates with SAP Cloud Application Lifecycle Management (CALM), a free service that provides comprehensive monitoring and management capabilities for your integration scenarios. You can track the health and performance of your integrations in real-time, receive alerts for errors and issues, and perform health checks and root cause analysis.

Myth #2: SAP Integration Suite is only for SAP integrations.

Fact: This is another false claim. SAP Integration Suite is a flexible and open platform that supports both SAP and non-SAP integrations. In fact, its adapter library prioritizes non-SAP applications, with over 240 adapters dedicated to integrating with external solutions. Moreover, SAP Integration Suite provides pre-packaged content and scenarios for various non-SAP applications, such as Google Suite, Amazon Web Services, and Facebook. You can also create your own custom integrations using the SAP Cloud Platform Open Connectors service.

Myth #3: SAP Integration Suite cannot handle high-volume scenarios.

Fact: This is a misconception. SAP Integration Suite is designed to scale efficiently and handle high volumes of data. It uses a distributed and elastic architecture that can dynamically adjust to the load and demand of your integration scenarios. It also leverages the SAP Cloud Platform’s global data centers and network infrastructure to ensure high availability and reliability. SAP Integration Suite’s customers process millions of messages and API calls per day through the platform, even during peak load periods.

Myth #4: Monitoring integration scenarios is difficult.

Fact: This is not true. SAP Integration Suite makes monitoring integration scenarios easy and convenient. It integrates with SAP Cloud Application Lifecycle Management (CALM), a free service that offers a comprehensive and user-friendly dashboard for monitoring and managing your integration scenarios. You can access real-time insights, alerts, and health checks for your integrations, as well as troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and effectively. You can also customize your monitoring settings and preferences according to your needs and preferences.

Myth #5: SAP Integration Suite is only for cloud integrations.

Fact: This is incorrect. SAP Integration Suite supports both cloud and on-premise integrations. With the recent release of the Edge Integration Cell, SAP Integration Suite now enables on-premise to on-premise integrations. This means you can process APIs, events, and integrations entirely on your own infrastructure, providing greater flexibility and control. You can also use the SAP Cloud Connector to securely connect your on-premise systems to the SAP Cloud Platform and SAP Integration Suite.

Myth #6: Platform upgrades break integration scenarios.

Fact: This is a myth. SAP Integration Suite provides two options to ensure that platform upgrades do not affect your integration scenarios:

  • Delayed software updates: You can choose to delay software updates on your productive tenant, giving you time to test your critical scenarios on a separate test or development tenant. You can also schedule your updates according to your convenience and availability.

  • Customer test service: SAP offers a paid service where they test your integration scenarios in a controlled environment before upgrading your productive tenant. This way, you can ensure that your integrations are compatible and functional with the latest platform version.
